AZ Oostende has deployed an AI to draw up medical report from consultations : one of the first Belgian hospitals to deploy healthcare AI in that domain.

The tool, developed by Cavell and Nexuzhealth, listens during the consultation and generates a draft. The doctor reviews, completes, and signs off. Patient consent is required. Audio is not stored.

At the same time in July, the World Health Organization warned that only 8% of European countries have a healthcare-specific strategy to govern AI usage in the domain.

Two lessons from a real deployment and the governance gap

1. A well-chosen business case creates exceptional value. Of course, governance must be done right : tested in a controlled environment first, consent before each use, no audio retention, the doctor remains responsible.
